Thinking About Goats?

Soooooooo.... your thinking about goats! That's great!! Its can be great they are so very cute when just kids they love to play and be loved run around in circles jump on everything just to jump off of it and kick their feet out. You can feed them treats they will follow you like a dog and go for walks they can keep your other animals company they do really well in a pair. Goats are great pets we have three and they are sweet as a button. They really haven't given us any grief...much ;) But there are a few things we have learned over the years of having them.

They will jump on your car

Do Not leave any food out you do not want them to eat they will bust into anything to get it including your chicken coop :\

Its nice when they can just roam around they property I love that we can let them do that. but only in the winter at our house. They will destroy fruit tree and bushes you love haha flower garden they will find where you store the hay and do anything to get inside to eat it.

If their water is over 5 hours old they will not drink it.

Their feet have to be trimmed. That's a fun one! But if you know how to do it safely it cuts down on cost to get someone else into to do it.

THEY LOVE TO WASTE HAY! If it touches the ground there is no five second rule they just crap on it. its no more good to them and a lot of it hits the ground as they are eating. We have tried hay nets, barrels, a empty kids pool, feeding three times a day smaller amounts it just doesn't matter. Luckily for us we have a horse that loves to clean up after them :)

Please be careful with hay nets they can cause harm they can get their heads legs caught in the netting. We no longer use these for our goats for the most part.

In a way I wished we would have got milking goats just because they wouldn't be like lawn ornaments they would serve a purpose with making goat milk soap which would be really nice.

We love our goats they are really great and are a lot of fun. I just love my flowers and gardens a little bit more in the summer so they can come out all winter then in you go so we can enjoy what left here :l Lesson learned. And this is just our experience all goats are completely different. I have 2 sisters Dot and Medow and they along came the little evil one hope.
